The wedding of Rachel and Greg was filmed at Rouch Nature Banquet Hall and Event center, Sturgis, MI. It’s been nearly 3 years since we filmed this wedding. We arrived the day of the wedding, and there had been several weeks off and on of some pretty nasty thunderstorms that had rolled through the area. Several areas were out of force. But Rouch was prepared just in case. The weekend before at The Medalist in Marshall, MI we had the identical possible outcome, with no might from hundreds of downed influence lines across the region.
Greg and Rachel’s wedding was to initiate at 3:30pm, outside at the ceremony facility at Rouch. At 3pm, the power went out to the entire venue….and fancy clockwork, Rouch owners got to work getting their generators turned on and powering up the facility. At 3:40, we were ready to go, and dominance also got restored. Thanks to the excellent choice of Greg and Rachel of venue, and the owners, we were capable to start on time. Greg and Rachel hired us for video and DJ services…here is their wedding video.

On July 28, the Michigan Supreme Court released its ruling in one of its most closely watched cases of the year. In Rouch World, LLC v. Department of Civil Rights, the Court held in a 5-to-2 decision that Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act (ELCRA) prohibits discrimination due to an individual’s sexual orientation. Small businesses should take note—the law applies to nearly every public-facing business, employer and landlord, among others.
The case stems from a complaint filed with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights by a lgbtq+ couple that had been denied the opportunity to host their wedding reception at an event center. The owners of the event center refused to host the reception based on sincerely held religious beliefs that characterize marriage as between one male and one woman.
The case was expedited to the Michigan Supreme Court, presenting the question of whether the law’s prohibition on discrimination “because of… sex” included a p
Rouch World Event Center focus of Michigan Supreme Court gay rights appeal
Was Rouch World Event Center Banquet Hall in Sturgis in violation of Michigan law when it refused to host a gay wedding in 2019?
The M-66 facility will get a verdict from the Michigan Supreme Court after hearing arguments from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel Wednesday challenging a Court of Claims ruling that decided the issue in favor of the Christian owners.
Nessel urged the court to rule that Michigan businesses must not refuse service to clients simply because customers may be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer under the 1976 Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act.
Asked by Justice Richard Bernstein the ramifications of refusing to overturn the reduce court ruling in this case, Nessel answered, "Honestly, what it means is that for, you know, every day Michiganders who ... go into a café and order a cup of coffee, they can still be turned away. They can still be told, 'we will not serve you here.' And that's a travesty."
On April 12, 2019, Natalie Johnson and Megan Oswalt contacted Rouch World. They requested it host their same-sex wedding ceremony at the event center.

Moss Celebrates Michigan Supreme Court Ruling on Rouch World
LANSING, Mich. (July 28, 2022) — Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) today issued the following statement regarding the Michigan Supreme Court’s decision in Rouch World LLC v. Michigan Department of Civil Rights, in which the Court decided in support of the state, affirming legal protections for sexual orientation and gender identity through the term “sex”:
“This victory in the Michigan Supreme Court affirms what LGBTQ Michiganders knew all along: Our lives have worth, and our work provides value. And now today, when faced with discrimination, we can seek justice.
“Too many people in Michigan suffered hardships up until this decision — fired, evicted, or denied available services solely due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. This ruling, more than 40 years in the making, is owed to those who bravely fought against harassment and ridicule to be recognized in the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. A special debt of gratitude is due to Attorney General Dana Nessel, Michigan’s first out LGBTQ statewide official, who personally argued this case before the Court herself. Our community never asked
