Bullying is a serious, globally widespread, problem. Preventing and intervening against bullying is an international priority for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.
The World Anti-Bullying Forum (WABF) is the largest international and multidisciplinary conference on the topic of bullying. The biennial conference brings together experts from various disciplines in the fields of analyze, practice, and policymaking. In 2025, WABF is hosted by the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research in Education, University of Stavanger, in collaboration with FRIENDS and Partnership against Bullying Norway. It will take place on June 11-13, 2025.
The goal of WABF 2025 is to increase the understanding of bullying and other forms of violence and discriminating behavior, and to promote prevention and intervention against bullying across different contexts.
WABF 2025 will host discussions, panels, and meetings, such as scientific communications (symposia, oral and poster presentations), and workshops for policymakers and practitioners from kindergarten, schools, and other life-contexts where bullying may occur. As
Deaconess Foundation’s Vamos has supported fresh people in challenging life situations for over 16 years, and bullying experiences are the unpartnered biggest cause of young people’s ill health and long-term anxiety year after year. Vamos Rovaniemi attended the World Anti-Bullying Forum held in Norway in July.

Verian surveyed Finns’ views on current social issues at the request of the Deaconess Foundation’s social enterprise Rinnekoti. 1055 people answered the doubt about the polarized situation of young people and the reasons for their malaise. 48% of respondents considered that one of the biggest reasons for childish people’s malaise was bullying. This was followed by challenges in family interaction (43%) and mental health challenges (36%).
Anti-bullying cooperation across sector borders
Bullying is the biggest cause of mental health challenges internationally. Almost 90% of all young people at Vamos own experienced bullying.

About the World Anti-Bullying Forum
The World Anti-Bullying Forum (WABF) is a global initiative that, every other year, brings together participants from over 35 countries to address bullying in various settings, such as preschools, schools, leisure activities, and online environments. In 2025, the National Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research at the University of Stavanger will host the forum, collaborating with Partnership Against Bullying Norway and the Swedish child rights organization Friends.

"It's an honor to host this conference in Norway. This is a a very essential meeting point in the serve and research against bullying," says Professor Hildegunn Fandrem at the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioral Research in Learning (Centre for Learning Environment), University of Stavanger (UiS).
She leads the planning of the conference together with colleagues Professor Simona Caravita and Associate Professor Janne Støen.

Fandrem expresses her anticipation for gaining a distinct insight on international research concerning bullying.
The Centre for Learning Environment at UiS will host the World Anti-Bullying Forum (WABF) in June, 2025, in collaboration with the Teacher Education programs at UiS, the UNESCO Chair in Diversity, Inclusion and Education, the Knowledge Centre for Education and Partnership against Bullying.

Two weeks ago, the most stimulating conference for our MSCA Participate fellows happened – World Anti-Bullying Forum 2025. This year it took place in Norway and was hosted by the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research in Education at the University of Stavanger (UiS).
The World Anti-Bullying Forum, initiated by Swedish NGO Friends in 2017, is more than a regular conference: it is a global platform that unites researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to prevent bullying and violence against children. Through biannual meetings and knowledge-sharing, the forum fosters inclusive, research-based strategies to address bullying, emphasizing respect, empathy and sustainable changes for all children.
Over the three days, we were immersed in a dynamic mix of keynotes, symposia, workshops, and poster sessions that offered diverse perspectives on (cyber)bullying as a complex global issue influenced by cultural norms, social dynamics, and individual experiences.
