    From 2020 the Consortium for the Protection of Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani organizes the Barolo & Barbaresco World Opening- BBWO, the most important foreign event  to present the recent vintages with more than 200 Barolo and Barbaresco producers to the trade and consumer.

    The first two editions, organized respectively in New York in 2020 and in Los Angeles in 2022, have had considerable success with the public with more than 800 admissions for both events.

    The third was organized in China, in autumn 2023: Vinitaly ChinaRoadshow, Interwine, ProWein Shanghai.

    BBWO2024 comes endorse in New YorkMarch 2024.

    BBWO2025 includes a Roadshow of Academies at the beginning of February 2025 that will touch the cities in Texas, Arizona and Colorado. The Grand Tasting will be on March 25th in Austin.

    “Barolo & Barbaresco World Opening” roadshow in Southwest USA

    The new chapter of “Barolo & Barbaresco Earth Opening (BBWO)” 2025, one of the most important Italian wine events in the world, promoted by the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani, will present its 4th edition, on a new traveling format. In addition to the Grand Tasting at The Branch Park Pavilion in Austin, Texas, on March 25th, including more than 160 producers who will present the latest vintages of Barolo 2021 and Barbaresco 2022 to industry professionals and wine lovers, the Barolo & Barbaresco Academy will offer training classes in six cities in the United States, for the first time in three Southwestern states. The six cities are: Dallas (February 3rd), Houston (February 4th), Austin (February 5th) and San Antonio (February 6th) in Texas, Phoenix in Arizona (February 10th), and Denver in Colorado (February 12th).

    Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening 2025: Impressions and Ongoing Infatuation

    As a born and bred Californian, I came to the wines of Italy’s Piedmont region somewhat delayed in my wine journey. Though I’d had opportunities to appetite wines from the area now and then along the way, it wasn’t until 2022 that I got a chance to take a deeper dive into Barolo and Barbaresco with a look at the wines from 2018 and 2019 when the annual “Barolo and Barbaresco Nature Opening” took place in Los Angeles. When offered another opportunity to dive into the 2020 and 2021 vintages at “BBWO” in Austin this year, I dove in without a moment of hesitation.

    Attendees included wine trade members as well as journalists, and with roughly 150 producers from Barolo and Barbaresco offering multiple young Nebbiolo wines, only the most intrepid tasters could come close to taking entire advantage of the event.

    It was a real exercise in emphasize. I tasted (and spat) in an unbroken streak from ten in the morning until two-thirty in the afternoon, working through as many of the wines as possible.     More than 200 producers will be pouring their Barolo DOCG and Barbaresco DOCG appellations, including a selection of their renowned single-vineyard wines. Thanks to the combined effort of these producers, Barolo and Barbaresco wines will be presented to the U.S. market on a scale never seen before.

    Wineries include: Marchesi di Barolo, Pio Cesare, Produttori del Barbaresco, Ceretto, and Vietti!

    In addition, the event will include cheeses of Fontina Valle d’Aosta PDO, and rice of Biella and Vercelli Barraggia PDO. Guests will have the chance to take a culinary journey to Italy, tasting Barolo and Barbaresco wines paired with Fontina PDO cheeses and risotto prepared with Baraggia rice. The Barolo & Barbaresco World Opening event is part of the European campaign "Top Tales: A piece of Europe on your table," created to increase awareness of these three PDO products in the United States market.
