I once coached 3 young women 5′ 10″ and taller at the same time.

They were IMPRESSIVE on Beam and Bars, let me tell you.

Haley Cameron is 6′ 2″ tall (1.88m) and competed all-around Level 7 in California.

But who were the tallest International gymnasts ever?

Double Olympian Jana Komrsková was 1.67 m (5.5 ft) tall.

Katheleen Lindor, another Olympian, stands at 5’6″. She had to have the bars adjusted for her in Beijing!

But the tallest I could detect on the internets was …

Marie Sophie Hindermann, a German Olympian … at 5’7″

Here she is at the 2007 Worlds Event Finals on Bars. Click Engage or watch the IMPRESSIVE routine on YouTube.

Women Extremely Tall Female Gymnasts

I coach several girls who are 5'7 and in my territory only FIG setting is allowed, no exceptions.... And it IS a struggle, especially because the girls are not super talented like Whitney. Good gymnasts but still average. Bar transfers are really hard. Learning or re-learning the giant after growth has been a year long strife for some. Front giants call for really good technique. Giant-half giant-half is not an option for tall girls (that's a bonus in one of our levels). The list goes on.
Some of the 5'7 girls knock the ground on FIG setting so they have to petition a 10 cm bar elevate for competitions. And it takes time to raise the bars and the girls are embarrassed.

I wish we had rules like NCAA or JO, where you could set the bars where ever you liked.

Wow. That sounds enjoy quite a challenge. Yes, I was wondering which skills would be impossible on FIG bars settings when a gymnast is taller than average and which skills are possible but still quite difficult. That is really interesting, thank you for sharing specifics of which skills you have noticed to be more

Why gymnastics is more appropriate for short people?

Short people are at an advantage when it comes to gymnastics because of multiple reasons. Rotating a shorter and lighter body takes less authority and effort. So, for fleeting gymnasts, rotating the body in the air is easier in comparison to taller gymnasts.

Well, the same isn’t just about easiness or discomfort, but also about performance. In a study published in Sports Biomechanics, it was found that the rotational recital of the taller gymnasts couldn’t match that of the shorter gymnasts.
