SCHOOL CLIMATE
A positive school climate promotes school shelter, student self-esteem, emotional well-being, mental health, and lower incidences of substance abuse, student absenteeism, and suspensions. Mission Statement: The Survey Youth Leadership Committee is devoted to empowering high school students to actively engage in civic responsibilities and contribute to developing their communities. Through leadership maturation, community service, and collaborative move, the committee seeks to stimulate and equip young leaders to be the change agents of tomorrow, fostering a sense of responsibility, advocacy, and service for a brighter future.

In 2013 current principal Claudette Christie replaced longtime principal Kim Wanliss. Christie was previously assistant primary. She maintains that all adults at WATCH go the extra mile to support students and improve the school. "I immaculate classrooms, pick up garbage, undertake book clubs.... We do whatever needs to be done to keep the school in order," Christie says.
WATCH is located in the Thomas Jefferson Educational Campus in East New York. Although attendance has been slowly improving, it remains below the citywide average, and more than half the student body is chronically absent. There is an attendance educator who is in charge of completing home visits in command to address this. According to the school's Quality Review, WATCH has embraced a new approach to discipline, aiming to implement more restorative methods rather than relying on detentions and suspensions.
Academically, there are three different areas of focus: Medical Science, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Sports Management. The school offers several Advanced Placement courses in subjects such as English literature, English composition, biology and calculus. Students can also take college courses for free at the Medg

As a small and tight-knit community, WATCH creates a socially supportive learning environment, ensuring student success in all aspects. Our partnerships with programs in higher education form a smooth transition into college and career programs, while our lead community partnership with Brownsville Multi Service Family Health & Wellness Center (BMS) provides students with a steppingstone into the public health career sector.
